2. Outside diameter and wall thickness — the comparison that matters
This is where lines that are "the same size" stop being the same. Tube outside diameter (OD) × wall thickness, in mm:

Values per EN 10357-A / DIN 11850 tube tables, SMS 3008, ASTM A270 / ASME BPE Part DT and BS 4825-3 ferrule data as published by tube and ferrule manufacturers. Legacy DIN 11850 editions list ODs 1 mm smaller (18/22/28/34/40/52) than current EN 10357-A (19/23/29/35/41/53) — always verify with a caliper. The headline: at "2 inch", a DIN DN50 line is 53.0 mm, ISO 2037/SMS is 51.0 mm, and ASME BPE is 50.8 mm OD. Welding or clamping across these families without transition pieces causes internal misalignment, product hold-up and seal failure. A DIN DN50 valve end will not seal on an ISO or ASME line.
3. OD tolerances — why "close enough" is not close enough

Ferrules and gaskets are designed around these tolerances. A gasket that works on an A270 line may be overloaded on an out-of-family OD — another reason not to mix families.
4. Surface finish: Ra, 3-A and the ASME BPE SF classes
Surface roughness decides how easily bacteria and residue anchor to the steel. 3-A requires Ra ≤ 0.8 µm (32 µin) on product-contact surfaces. For biopharmaceutical work, ASME BPE defines the SF classes:
|

JONENG valves ship as standard with inner Ra ≤ 0.4 µm / outer Ra ≤ 0.8 µm (mirror or matte polish, blasting optional) — already at the SF4-class inner finish — with full electropolishing available for pharma duty.
5. Clamp ferrules: same flange, still not interchangeable
Tri-clamp style ferrules share flange diameters across families — which makes them look compatible. The seal groove geometry and the tube OD behind the flange differ, so ferrules are not interchangeable between families even when the clamp fits:

DIN 32676 (series A and B) and ISO 2852 ferrules follow their own dimension sets — particularly in the mid sizes. Specify the ferrule family together with the tube standard.
6. Five practical rules from our service engineers
- Measure, don't assume: a $10 caliper reading of actual OD + wall settles every "which standard is this?" argument — especially on legacy European skids built to old DIN editions.
- Never weld or clamp across families: 53.0 vs 51.0 vs 50.8 mm at "2 inch" guarantees misalignment and product hold-up.
- Keep one ferrule family per line: mixing DIN 32676-A with ISO 2852 ferrules is a hidden leak source.
- Write the standard on the PO: "DN50, DIN 11850/EN 10357-A, clamp ends" — not "2 inch valve".
- Order valve ends to match the plant, not the catalogue: JONENG supplies DIN, ISO, 3A, SMS, BS, RJT and JIS ends on the same valve bodies, so one valve platform covers mixed-standard plants.
7. FAQAre DIN and ISO sanitary fittings interchangeable?
No. At DN50 the DIN tube is 53.0 mm OD while ISO 2037/SMS is 51.0 mm — ferrules and weld ends differ. Gaskets and clamps must stay within one family. Is 3-A a dimensional standard?
3-A is primarily a hygienic-design and finish standard for dairy/food equipment in the US; dimensional tubing normally follows ASTM A270. The practical pairing is "3-A design + A270 dimensions + 32 µin finish".Which standard should I choose for pharmaceutical lines?
ASME BPE: imperial A270 dimensions, SF-class surface finishes (SF4 electropolished is the common pharma spec), controlled-sulfur 316L for orbital welding, and full material traceability. What does RJT mean?
Ring Joint Type — the British dairy union defined in BS 4825 Part 5, common on UK-installed lines that are frequently dismantled. Can you supply one order with mixed standards?
Yes — mixed-standard plants are routine for us. Tell us per line which standard it runs and every valve end, ferrule and gasket arrives matched.
